Supporting the radical theatre of today and shaping its future
The Yard is a pioneering example of a 21st century theatre. By supporting The Yard you will be helping us to:
- Commission and develop the boldest, most exciting voices in theatre today
- Provide children and young people locally with the opportunity to be creative and make radical new work
- Connect with audiences by rooting all our work in stories about our world today
Your support is important because it will:
- Enable us to provide a space where artists have an unequivocal freedom to create brave, electric new work
- Open up the arts and make it relevant to the next generation of artists
- Ensure our work can remain affordable for audiences
As a registered charity (number 1144028), there are a number of ways you can keep our little bit of East London alive with culture. We look forward to talking to you.
How can I help The Yard?
BECOME A FRIEND OF THE YARD
“There is too much looking back in the world of theatre. The Yard is about the future and ensuring that art can be accessed by the many both in terms of writing and watching.” – Friend Of The Yard
By making regular donations, Friends Of The Yard play an important role in supporting us to:
- Commission the most inspiring artists to create innovative, boundary-pushing theatre that tells stories from the margins
- Provide free drama activities to local children aged 5 – 19 in Hackney Wick through Yardlings, The Committee and The Company at Hub67
Friends Of The Yard receive regular updates on the impact their support has, alongside personal thank you’s, ticket-based perks and invites to exclusive events.

Whether you’re looking for a unique venue to entertain your clients, want to treat your workforce to an inspiring night of theatre and music, or simply give a little back to your local community by helping us to achieve our goals, The Yard Theatre has something for you.
The Yard combines entrepreneurial spirit with artistic vision, making it “a beacon of exciting, progressive new work in theatre-poor east London and a real model for what a theatre can and should be in the twenty-first century” (Time Out). You can be part of this vision.
To discuss a bespoke relationship with “a key local cultural anchor” (London Legacy Development Corporation), please email Gareth Cutter, The Yard’s Development Officer, via email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 3111 0570.
As a trust or foundation that cares deeply about cultural and social philanthropy, you could make a huge, creative impact on theatre and participatory arts for young people by donating to one of the most pioneering new theatres in London. Your support will help us both find new ways of supporting artistic excellence, and ensure that everyone has a chance to take part.
“The future has arrived in Hackney Wick in the form of The Yard.” – Lyn Gardner, Guardian journalist

Started by a group of 50 volunteers in 2011, The Yard is now recognised as the “most important theatre in East London” (Time Out). Through our ability to identify artists and inspire new work, The Yard has become a leader in the future of theatre.
This could not have been achieved without the ongoing commitment and generous support of local residents, individuals, Trusts, Foundations, and businesses.
We have a commercial bar, of which all of the profits support our charitable activity. But your support is critical to our success and we need it to raise 25% of our income every year. We’d love for you to be involved – to find out how you can help, please email our Development Officer, Gareth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
