NEXT: Marion Burge + Tom Halls

27 - 28 Nov | Part of NEXT Festival

Marion Burge

We Owe You A Legacy | 7.30pm

A loving tribute and a painful excavation, We Owe You a Legacy is a show about Mothers of women of the African diaspora. Their love and care, their high expectations and scrutiny.

Following the beautifully searching Nebula (NOW 17), Marion returns to The Yard with a show that journeys through the colonial residue of the past to a place of hope.

Drawing on dance, food and sisterhood, We Owe You a Legacy confronts the difficulties of daughterhood and the heritage of motherly love.

Performance Collaborators: Dejonie Langallier, Amanda Oyebusola Ajomale

Tom Halls

Rage Face | 9pm

Rage Face is unstitching body bags and peering into queer interconnectedness and internalised self-loathing.

A microphone, a table, a queer. This isn’t a soapbox, it’s a confession. It actually happened.

Reality and fantasy blur in this intimate confessional of a queer psychopath. Rage Face treads the delicate line between humour and horror in a surprising tale of how the marginalised can be demonised and how, in turn, they can demonise themselves

Dramaturg: Bridget Sweeney
Artistic Consultant: Andrew Westle

About Marion

Marion is a Live artist and performance maker based in London. She makes work that seeks to inspire a shift in the way we understand the communities and emotional space we move through. Her work is visual and challenges the audience to look at identity and heritage with particular emphasis on claiming the performance space as a decolonised environment with potential to exist differently through experimental performance practices.

About Tom

Tom Halls is a performance artist, originally from Melbourne, Australia, now based in Manchester, UK. Tom is co-founder of Hotel Now, a ‘gloriously entertaining’ company focused on creating original Australian works in it’s fifth year of production, and TomYumSim, a performance duo using unconventional performance spaces for immersive experiences.

A graduate of Acting at the Victorian College of the Arts, Tom has performed and been programmed at Melbourne International Festival, Melbourne Fringe Hub, Melbourne Writers Festival, Fringe World Perth, La Mama Theatre and Poppy Seed Festival. He has worked with Guerilla Museum and The Boon Companions on their immersive performance events of scale, creating audience experiences that leave the participants with the ‘most magical experience of all’ (, 2016). Tom’s arts practice centres on creating works that challenge and test the relationship between audience and performer. This is Tom’s second showing at The Yard Theatre. Find more at
